Picture for project Crows on the Wire

Crows on the Wire is a powerful and challenging project that creatively explores a highly significant aspect of recent NI political, civic and human history – the transition of the RUC to the PSNI as a result of the Good Friday Agreement – from the perspectives of those most directly impacted, the rank and file officers’. The play was commissioned from the writer Jonathan Burgess, followed by the performance tour in November 2013, the community engagement programme throughout and the production of the App in 2014 as a freely accessible and innovative educational resource – all of the Crows on the Wire programmes have benefited greatly from the partnerships and support brought to the project by our partners in the community, and particularly by members of the project Steering Group.  For more information visit www.crowsonthewire.co

Crows on the Wire is a dynamic new app, superbly illustrated in contemporary comic book styleand set in stunning 3D scenarios.  The app is a graphic novel version of the original drama by Jonathan Burgess, commissioned in 2013 by the Verbal Arts Centre.

The Crows on the Wire App tells the human story behind the political events of the night of 3rd November 2001 – a pivotal historical moment when the RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary) transitioned into the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland).

The app is also an innovative educational resource, and contains a range of interactive and easily accessible resources designed to stimulate young people to consider how the past influences the present, and to explore themes such as cultural identity, sectarianism, conflict, change, commemoration, equality and the role of the younger generation. The app is particularly aimed at teachers of History and Citizenship at KS4, and will be of interest to teachers of English and Drama.
