Reading Rooms play-date for Belfast BabyDay

The Verbal Arts Centre is calling all families to bring along their babies and children to the world’s first BabyDay taking place in Belfast on Sunday, September 27th, echoing the message that you’re never too young to enjoy the arts!

BabyDay has been organised by Replay Theatre Company based at Skainos Square, 239 Newtownards Road, Belfast, with an extravaganza of baby and family-centred activities taking place in venues across Belfast on Sunday.

BabyDay will be an extraordinary day that will capture the imagination of the whole city. With art in the streets, music in the air and families everywhere, there’ll be a real festival feel and Belfast will be one big bundle of joy!

Verbal’s Reading Rooms project is hosting two exciting BabyDay drop-in events at two different locations - Easons and Skainos - and everyone with babies and older children is invited to come along and enjoy our mobile shared reading experience with stories specially selected for the occasion.

Reading Rooms has teamed up with Easons to present World of Words, an afternoon of stories and poetry from around the world, featuring an exhibition of work and printing workshop with special guest, children’s illustrator and printmaker, René Mullin.

Come and read aloud with babies, brothers, sisters, mums, dads and grandparents at Easons, 40-46 Donegall Square, Belfast, from 1pm – 4pm. The workshop with talk by René Mullins is at 2:30pm. Drop-in and stay as long as you like!

Meanwhile, our Reading Rooms bus will be at Skainos Square, 239 Newtownards Road, Belfast, on Sunday from 1pm-4pm, for the Reading Rooms Ramble, an afternoon of shared reading for all the family, exploring nature, parks and the great outdoors in east Belfast and beyond through stories and poems read aloud together.

Again, drop in and stay as long as you like – all Reading Rooms sessions are free. Make sure to be at BabyDay on Sunday, September 27th, the most important play-date in your diary this year!

Dr Maeve O’Lynn, Reading Rooms Belfast, said: “There is a real buzz around Belfast BabyDay. This unique event has captured everyone’s imagination and we are really excited to be involved. We are looking forward to seeing many families  - and most importantly all the babies and children - join us for our two events at Skainos and Easons on Sunday, for what promises to be an absolutely fantastic BabyDay.”
