As part of the 'Sweetness & Light' Creative Writing Programme, the Verbal Arts Centre has invited a key speaker, Mr Jim Ryan to give a talk on the ‘History of Beekeeping in Ireland’ on the 2nd December 2013 at 7pm.
Jim Ryan has been keeping bees for over thirty years and manages up to fifty colonies. He is a qualified lecturer since 1989 and lectures all over Ireland, Scotland and England. Jim is particularly interested in the history of Irish beekeeping and has collected a considerable archive over the years.

As part of the ‘Culture of Bees & Us’ programme, Derry & District Beekeepers Association (DDBKA) has commissioned the Verbal Arts Centre to run a Creative Writing Programme called ‘Sweetness & light’ which explores the importance of bees throughout the literature.
This project has been developed by Derry & District Beekeepers Association (DDBKA), Roe Valley Beekeepers Association (RVBKA), The Institute of Northern Irish Beekeepers (INIB) and Derry City Council and is funded by the Big Lottery through their ‘Culture for All’ fund.
